Saturday Morning Prayer

Opening Prayers: O compassionate one, whose name is holy, who is good and just from everlasting, overflowing with loving-kindness and mercy; pour forth, O Lord and God, the compassion of the kindness of your love on the souls of your faithful, who call and beseech you, at all times, O Lord of all: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, forever. Amen.

Prayer:  Bless, O Lord, your servants in your loving-kindness and keep your faithful from all harm through the overflowing abundance of your mercy. Shepherd, guide, help, and protect our lives beneath the caring wings of your love. Save, rescue, and deliver our bodies and souls from the evil one and his hosts, at all seasons and times, O Lord of all: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, forever. Amen.

You shall hear my voice in the morning, O Lord: In the morning the martyrs were called to be killed and the right hand of our Lord weaved their crowns.

In the morning, I will be ready and will appear before you: In the morning the martyrs run to the contest to receive a double reward of their labors.

Let me hear your loving-kindness in the morning: In the morning our Lord called to the martyrs, “Come and take the reward, noble workmen.”

Look to him and trust in him: In the morning the martyrs saw the Holy Spirit weaving crowns and placing them on their heads.

The light shines in the darkness for the righteous: In the morning the martyrs shine forth like the sun and go forth to meet the heavenly bridegroom.

Holy and revered is his name: In the morning, the martyrs cry with the angels, “Holy, Holy, Holy, God.”

They shall bring him offerings: In the morning the martyrs bring offerings; prayer from their mouths and blood from their necks.

The offering of my hands as the evening offering: In the morning the martyrs have the censers in their hands and offer gifts to the King of kings.

As the fragrance of sweet incense, and an acceptable aroma before God: In the morning the martyrs present incense to him whose throne is in the fire that is subject to him.

Be strong, and your heart shall be strengthened: In the morning the martyrs encourage one another, “Come, let us scorn the wicked king.”

Before all the people: In the morning the martyrs cry in the judgment hall, “We will not deny the Heavenly Bridegroom.

For their sake He rebuked kings: In the morning the martyrs stood in the judgment hall and rebuked kings and confounded the wicked men.

For your sake, we have been killed daily:You and I shall go to the heavenly Jerusalem for you were killed like me and were persecuted for my sake.”

And have been counted as sheep appointed to be slain: The martyrs went to their death and their Lord to the Cross and the Holy Spirit weaved their crowns.

Your throne has been established from the beginning: The throne is prepared and the Son of the king sits and the martyrs enter and receive their crowns.

Both small and great: In the morning the martyrs run to the cross to drink the wine pressed out by the spear.

The Lord shall give strength to his people: May the power that strengthened the martyrs in the contests be granted to the assembly of your faithful, our Lord.

Open for me the gates of righteousness: In the morning, the king’s Son opens his treasure and the martyrs enter and receive their crowns.

That I may enter and give thanks to the Lord: In the morning our Lord opened Paradise and the thief went in and inherited the Kingdom.

When God arises to judgment: In the morning our Lord rose in judgment and calls out to the martyrs, “Come, take your crowns.”

How good and how beautiful:How fitting it is for the child Qiryakos when the wicked king is rebuked.

And a joyful mother of children: In the morning, Shmoni encourages her sons, “Do not fear him who kills men.”

Blessed are you and a blessing to your soul: Blessed is your spirit which dwells in heaven with the angels, O George, the martyr.

Let Mount Zion rejoice and the daughters of Judah be glad:Let the faithful Church rejoice and exult in the memorial of Mary, the mother of Christ.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: Peace to the martyrs and glory to their Lord; and by means of their prayers, mercy and compassion to us.

From the beginning and unto all ages:O memorable patron saint, the friend of Christ, beg of your Lord mercy for us all.

Let all the people say amen and amen: In the morning let us praise and in the morning let us glorify the Lord of the morning, the true light.

In the morning, let the prayer of your worshippers enter before your judgment-seat, O merciful Lord.

At morning time, let us praise your loving-kindness, for you have ordered light for the joy of creation.

Prayer after the anthem of the martyrs: At the dawn of the morning, we glorify you, Lord, for you are the savior of all creation. Give us, in your compassion, a day full of peace and grant us forgiveness of sins.  Do not cut off our hope, shut your door in our face, withhold your care from us, or deal with us as we deserve, O God, for you alone know our weakness.  Sow, O Lord, in the whole world love, peace, and harmony. Raise up priests, kings, and judges and give peace to our leaders. Heal the sick, preserve the strong, and pardon the sins of all mankind.  On the road that we journey, may your grace preserve us, O Lord, as it did to the young David from Saul; give us, in your mercy, that same grace to reach, according to your will, our aim in peace.  May the grace that preserved the prophet Moses in the sea, raised up Daniel from the lion’s den, and by which were rescued the company of Hananiah in the furnace, deliver us, O Lord, from the evil one.

☼ At morning time, we arise and worship the Father, lift up praise to the Son, and confess the Holy Spirit.  May the grace of the Father, the mercy of the Son, and the compassion of the Spirit, the threefold mystery, be our help all our days.  In you our helper, O true physician, we have trust. Apply the medicine of your mercy and heal our wounds lest we be utterly destroyed.

Without your help, we become even weaker to keeping your commandments. O Christ, who aides those who fulfill his will, preserve the faithful.  Let us beg in mercy, beseech the love, and ask for forgiveness from the compassionate one, who’s door is open to all who turn to him and repent.  Day after day, I promise you that tomorrow I will repent. My days have passed and gone, and my trespasses remain. O Christ, forgive me and have mercy on me.

Let us pray. Peace be with us.

Closing Prayers: To you, O great hope, honorable and true; for whom the just and the prophets waited in their generations, and whom the righteous pleased by their labors, and the holy martyrs pleased by the precious blood that was shed, we beseech and ask. Grant us, O Lord and God, that we may take refuge in the power hidden in their bones and be helped by their prayers; so that with them, among them, in their companies, around their tombs, and in the glorious temples set apart for the honor of their service, may we be made worthy to lift up to you praise, honor, confession, and worship, at all times, O Lord of all, forever. Amen.

May the martyrs, O Lord and God, who by your power and help had overcame, humiliated, and abolished the errors of paganism, and exalted and raised the true faith of your name, beg and beseech for us to your lordship, O Lord, in the great and glorious day when your justice is revealed from heaven, O just judge, who is full of mercy and who forgives sins and offenses, O Lord of all: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, forever.  Amen.

Monday Morning Prayer

Amen.

In the morning, you will hear my voice, O Lord: At morning time, when the doors on high are opened to prayer, receive our pleading, O Lord, and respond to our petitions in your mercy. Grant hope and salvation to the souls who wait for you.

And in the morning, I will be ready and will appear before you: The morning of our Lord arrived and suddenly our Savior is revealed and gives a just reward to the righteous. Blessed is he who has prospered, worked in the vineyard of Christ and has received his reward abundantly.

Let us hear your loving-kindness in the morning:Make us worthy, O Lord, of that morning when heaven and earth rejoice; the just in their labors, the righteous in their deeds, the martyrs in their crowns, and the nations in the forgiveness of their trespasses.

And in the morning, my prayer shall come before you: At morning time, Moses, who was chosen, prayed at the top of the mountain. There, God answered him and gave him the staff of help that he might descend and save Israel from the slavery of the Egyptians.

Show your loving-kindness in the morning: At morning time, Moses saw an awesome vision on top of the mountain: God praised with processions, cherubim bearing his throne, seraphim singing holy in his honor, and angels serving him.

Sing to the Lord with harps and chanting: At morning time, the young David sang with his harp songs of the Holy Spirit. The beasts assembled and came to the sweet sounds of his words when he sang “Halleluiah.”

Let us praise him with songs: At morning time, the martyrs sang a new song in the judgment hall; “We will not deny Christ, who for us endured suffering, death, the cross, and saved humanity from sin.”

God has sent forth his loving-kindness and truth: At morning time, the dove was sent forth by Noah the innocent because of the waters of the flood. She returned and came to the ark bearing an olive leaf; a sign of peace and harmony.

You have given a sign for those who fear you: At morning time, a sign of peace and tranquility was seen; the rainbow of our Lord in the clouds. Then the creator swore, “I will not cause a flood from now and forever.”

In the sight of all the people: In the morning, the martyrs in the judgment hall raised and lifted up their voices, “We do not worship idols, we worship the one God and confess his Son, Jesus. He will deliver us from the fire.”

Be strong and your heart will triumph: In the morning, the martyrs in the judgment hall comfort one another and say, “The Lord is our help and we do not fear what any man does to us, whose crown and power will end. But the kingdom of the Lord is forever.”

Hear this, all you people: At morning time, a voice was heard that pronounced to the athletes, “Take up your crosses and come after me, for I am your Lord, your high priest, your God and your strength, and you are my disciples.”

He will bring judgment for those who suffer: In the morning, the faithful Shmoni offered prayer to God, “O God, bring justice for me against Antiochus the wicked, who kills my sons as lambs and threatens me like a lion.”

May your prayers be upon us: Gaddai and Maqwai, with Tarsai, Hewron, Hewson with Bakos and the seventh son, Yonadaw. With their teacher Eleazar and their mother, the faithful Shmoni, may their prayers be a refuge for us.

The camp of the angels of the Lord: At morning time, the martyrs, who were a multitude of saints, went forth from prison saying: “Be quick, O king, to cut off our heads so that we may depart and go up to heaven to our Lord who waits for us.”

For he has done a marvelous thing:A marvel was achieved from one end of the world to the other in the beloved child Qiryaqos, who at the age of three years, grace overshadowed him, and he was strengthened in the faith.

Righteous and upright: May the prayer of the martyr, George, be to us a refuge, so that the arrows of the evil one may go astray and his spear may not pierce us, for he hates us at all times and always wishes for our destruction.

Come and listen, and I will tell you: Listen and wonder, you discerners, a virgin has given birth in Bethlehem to the light of the whole world. Behold, her memorial is celebrated with processions in the four corners of creation, as well as in heaven among the angels.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:At morning time, the heavenly and earthly creatures give glory to you, O Son, who sits on the right hand, for at the sound of the trumpet, the old, the young, and the children are awakened, whom you have created for your glory.

From the beginning and unto all ages: Blessed is he who commerced as you traded, O patron saint, and has collected spiritual riches; who also filled his ship with all blessings and steered the vessel to the assembly of all the just.

Let all the people say amen and amen: O Lord, your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us the bread of our need and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

The help, which followed Moses, the firstborn of the prophets, in dividing the sea before the people, may that help follow your faithful who have come to ask forgiveness from the treasury of your kindness.

Anthem of the Martyrs

Tuesday Morning Prayer

Amen.

Praise the Lord, O you righteous: O martyrs, you were merchants whose storehouse is in heaven, for you have bought the pearl with the blood that poured forth from your necks.

The upright deserve praise: The martyrs, who were exalted and reached the heavenly Jerusalem, bought with their blood the country for which they waited.

They went from one nation to another: You moved from many countries, but did not depart from the Lord. Yet in every country that you entered, you placed a storehouse of life.

The Lord will abide in it forever: In the country where your bones are laid, there dwell peace and tranquility, and the camp of the angels on high guard it and the inhabitants.

Blessed are the people that are in such matter: Blessed is the country where within are laid your bones as storehouses; for when the light of the sun is darkened, the light from your bones shines forth.

From the upright, light has shone in the darkness: A light has shone forth from your bones and has made my mind to follow you, so I went forth to see your deaths and wondered at your crowns.

More desirable than gold and precious stones: Your bones are pearls and your bodies are the fragrance of incense. The blood which flowed from you brought favor to all creation.

They that are in the graves show your loving-kindness: Behold, in the Church are your bones and the keys of the heavens are upon you. O blessed ones, open your treasures and give help to the needy.

Like a city that is fortified: Like beams in a building, the martyrs surrounded creation, and when the earth was about to fall, they supported it by the power of their bones.

I was strengthened and could not attain it: The sea cannot make a breach in the wall which your love surrounds and satan has no power in the land where your bones are laid.

For your sake, we have been killed daily: On the day when his cross shines forth, the Lord will place the martyrs, who were killed for the glory of his majesty, at his right hand.

For the Lord promised a blessing and life forevermore: Where the martyrs were killed and their limbs cut off, there the Holy Spirit came down and made peace amid desolation.

Come, let us kneel and worship him: Before your graves, let us reverence the power hidden in your bones, for we who have seen your deaths on earth will see your crowns in heaven.

They that go down to the sea in ships: O martyrs, you were merchants who journeyed by sea and land. You have brought peace to the sea by your tears and to the land by your prayers.

From the depths I have called you, O Lord, and you have heard my voice:From the depths did the martyrs cry to you, and your loving-kindness answered them. Out of the depths we call to you, come, help us and save us.

I will always bless the Lord: Blessed be the Lord who exalts the memorial of his servants, who have fallen asleep. They sleep, are at peace and at rest, and from them helps spring forth.

How good and beautiful: How excellent are your crowns, which are woven by faith! They are adorned by the Holy Spirit with good and precious stones.

Like a thirsty and desolate land that desires water: Like a land that thirsts for water and daily longs for moisture, so did the martyrs thirst for the sweet love of their Lord.

They are renewed for thus they were made: Come in peace all you new bridegrooms, children of the mystery of baptism, where grace made you grow in the name of the Trinity.

And I spoke of peace: Peace be to your bones and rest to your limbs, for you resembled your Lord, by whose death sinners have obtained life.

Confess him and bless his name: Confess the truth and do not grow lazy. Behold the swords and do not tremble, for you have put on hidden armor that was fashioned by the Holy Spirit.

Both small and great: While feeling compassion for his companion, the martyr said to his fellow, “Come, let us die for Jesus and inherit eternal life.”

The Lord is faithful to his promise: The martyrs head the word which our Lord spoke, “He that dies for me has everlasting life,” and were strengthened by it.

More desirable than gold and precious stones:Like special stones and precious pearls, the martyrs are beloved, who were killed for Jesus.

How good and beautiful: How beautiful is that vessel which bore Mar Qiryaqos; companies of cherubim bear it in procession and seraphim in their blessings.

From the rising of the sun to its setting:Behold, everywhere are processions of the glorious day of the memorial of the victorious martyr Hormizd. Blessed is he who crowned him with victory.

He heals the broken hearted, and cures their pains: You were a healer, St. George, without medicines or roots, and all who take refuge in you are helped by your prayers.

I beseech from your graces: Beseech, you, who are full of grace, from the child who shone forth from your bosom, that he make his peace and harmony dwell in his Church, bought by his blood.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: Hail, you who have conquered! Hail, you who have been victorious! Hail, you who have become partakers in the suffering of the Son!

From the beginning and unto all ages: Your truth is great, O holy patron saint, and your happiness is exalted and glorious. Make request for us all, that we may share in your joy.

Let all the people say amen and amen: He who hears the prayers of his servants and answers the petitions of his faithful, hear our prayers and requests, and in your mercy, answer our petitions.

O you, whose right hand is stretched out and whose door is open to the penitent, open the door to our prayer and let our request come before you.

O you, who before his throne stand the fiery ones, as well as surround the companies of the watchful ones, take away from us all harm and rebuke the evil one to silence.

O you, who are true, who does not lie, and who promised, “Knock and I will open,” accept the prayer of your faithful and respond to the petitions of our souls.

Wednesday

Anthem of the Martyrs

Wednesday Morning Prayer

Amen.

Your servants praise you, O Lord: O holy martyrs, and teachers of the faith, pray that there may be peace throughout creation. Let wars end and disputes cease among us and the church sing praise by means of her children.

And your righteous give you thanks: On the day of judgment, may the holy martyrs who confessed you in their afflictions, and your flock whose blood was shed, beg forgiveness from you so that sins may be forgiven.

Let them speak of the glory of your Kingdom: The martyrs saw in a vision the glory of your Kingdom when they were being killed by their persecutors. They joyfully endured horrific tortures in their bodies and our Lord Jesus received their spirits.

Honored is their blood in his view: Let us always honor with songs of the Holy Spirit the bones of the martyrs who endured afflictions; so that, through the goodness and mercy of God, we may attain help on judgment day.

The Lord is glorified on high: In the heavens are your crowns and in the world are your assemblies, O martyrs, preachers of Christ the King. Behold, O sowers of peace, that in the heavens and in the depths are your feasts celebrated in the four corners of the earth.

Seek the Lord and be strengthened: O martyrs, seek mercy from the merciful God so that his peace may dwell in the four corners of the earth. When our Lord is revealed and the clouds bear your bodies, pray that with you we may inherit the kingdom.

You shall hear my voice in the morning, O Lord: In the morning the martyrs cried in the judgment hall before the persecutors; “We will not deny the heavenly bridegroom, for he is the one who delivers us from the hands of the ungodly and covers our bodies with glory in his kingdom.”

And in the morning, I will be ready and will  appear before you: In the morning, when Christ the king is made manifest and crowns you, O prophets, apostles, martyrs, and confessors, he will place on your heads crowns of glory that do not fade. Pray that with you we may inherit the kingdom.

Light has shone forth in the darkness to the righteous: O martyrs, sons of light, who rejected the world and its goods and desired and loved the heavenly bridegroom, ask and beseech for us, from your Lord whom you loved, that he may have mercy on us and save our souls.

Blessed are those that are blameless in the way: Blessed are you martyrs who triumphed over satan and conquered the sting of death and sin. May your prayers be a house of refuge for us and protection from the deceit of the evil one, the enemy.

And walk in the law of the Lord: The savior has promised a blessing that does not end and a Kingdom that cannot be destroyed to the friends whom he has chosen. Instead of afflictions, tortures, and lacerations, which they endured, he gives them the inheritance of everlasting life.

Righteous and upright: The illustrious martyr Qiryaqos was a young child who astonished with his words the king and his servants. Afterwards, he received the sword of the cruel king and by it was crowned for our Savior’s sake.

More beautiful to look at than the children of men: A beautiful shrub and an olive tree decked with branches was St. George, the friend of Christ; who, in humility and love, drew closer to his Lord and stretched forth his shoulder and bore the cross.

The virgins that are her friends shall follow her: O Holy Virgin Mary, the blessed mother, all nations call you blessed; for you were worthy to carry in your bosom the Emmanuel, Whom the prophets described beforehand in their mysteries.

Glory be, to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: Glory to the power that dwelt in the bones of the saints whose voice thunders in the four corners of the world, for they are laid in churches where aid spring forth from them and truth is revealed by the power of their words.

From the beginning and unto all ages: You who loved purity all the days of your life, were also chosen blameless by Christ because of your good deeds in the tabernacle of the saints. Behold, your soul dwells among the angels.

Let all the people say amen and amen: Give us, O giver of life, that which you know will help us, because we do not know what to ask for. But one thing we beg for, that your will may be accomplished in us and that your mercies may intercede for us all.

O Christ, you promised: “To every one who cries, I will answer, and to him that knocks at My door, I open.” Do not let your mercies and your loving-kindness be far from your faithful, for they take refuge in you so that they may receive help.

Amen.

Thursday

Anthem of the Martyrs

Thursday Morning Prayer

Amen.

For he speaks peace of his people and with his saints:Peace to the martyrs and honor to their bones; glory to their Lord and help to us by means of their prayer.

In your light, we see light: The martyrs are in the light, and the apostles are in the heavenly banquet of light. Behold, they sing glory to the one who dwells in the great light.

Sing beautifully in melody:Behold, the martyrs when they enter into the Kingdom say, “Glory to you, O Lord; for those who trust in you are never confused.”

All who hope in you shall not be ashamed:The martyrs say, “We have taken refuge in your cross, O merciful Lord, do not loosen your hold on us.”

He divided the sea, and let them pass through:O martyrs, who passed over the bridge of fire to reach heaven, pray that we don’t sink in the troubled sea of our sins.

Honored is their blood in his sight: May Christ, who received the blood of the martyrs on the day they were killed, receive our petition and open the door to our prayer.

The Lord on high is glorious: High in the heavens and in the endless treasury are laid up the deeds of the martyrs, the friends of Christ.

From of old has your seat been set: O Son, the throne of whose kingdom is set on high, by the prayer of your saints sustain the earth, which our trespasses have overthrown.

Sing to the Lord with harps and with melody:With the singing of Halleluiahs and songs of the Holy Spirit, the saints sing while the companies of demons tremble.

You shall hear my voice in the morning, O Lord: Every morning the martyrs stand in prayer and ask for help for the souls of sinners.

And in the morning I will be ready, and will appear before you: In the last morning, when the holy martyrs receive the reward of their deeds, in that hour have compassion on us, our Lord.

Offer him the sacrifice of praise:May the prayers of the martyrs, who were pure offerings to the Lord, be unto us a refuge by night and day.

Blessed are those who are blameless in the way:Blessed are the martyrs when they hear that voice, “Come, enter, you blessed of my Father and inherit everlasting life.”

They walk in the law of the Lord: Blessed are you whom your Lord has placed as a treasury, on the altar is your memorial forever.

Do good, O Lord, unto the good: Blessed are the athletes who bound their own beauty with the dwelling of heaven, “Let us not remain on earth and be corrupted.”

To those who are true of heart:Blessed are the martyrs for at the time when the people are divided, the good from the bad, they inherit the Kingdom.

The camp of the angels of the Lord: You company of Gregory, Basil, and John, pray that the darkness of the heretics does not enter into the church.

May your prayers be upon us:O company of Mar Ephrem, Mar Narsai, and all the teachers of the truth, may your prayers be to us, a refuge by night and day.

A place where there was no fear:In the heavenly banquet of light, on the right hand of Christ, there all the holy martyrs have joy.

How good and beautiful: How excellent and how desirable is the glory that the righteous are clothed on the day of the resurrection; it is achieved through the deeds that they have accomplished.

In heaven and on earth: Your body is with us, yet your soul is in heaven, O St. George the martyr. Beg for mercies from your Lord.

Light has shone forth in the darkness for the righteous: O Christ, who shined forth from the blessed Mary, by the prayers of her who bore you keep your church from harm.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: Peace to the church and harmony to all who dwell in her, and glory to the Power that strengthened the martyrs in their trials.

From the beginning and unto all ages: May the prayer of our patron saint, who was a pure offering to his Lord, be unto us a refuge by night and day.

Let all the people say amen and amen:Do not let the prayer of your servants go in vain, my Lord, instead, let it be for reconciliation and forgiveness of sins

I entered into your house, and worshipped before your judgment seat, O merciful Lord; forgive me my trespasses and sins!

This house is a figure for heaven, therefore let us faithfully enter it in love and without deceit.

Amen.

Friday

Anthem of the Martyrs

Friday Morning Prayer

Amen.

I will always bless the Lord: Blessed is the hidden power that dwells in the bones of the martyrs that are laid in the graves. They drive away devils from the world by their teaching and they abolish all the errors of idols. For in secret they visit creation and teach the faithful to worship you, because you alone are the Lord.

Forever are his praises on my lips: Blessed is Christ, who clothed wis disciples with strong armor. They then went forth to the four corners of the world and preached his doctrine throughout creation. They destroyed the power of the enemy by the sword of the Spirit and turned the nations from error to the truth of their faith.

Great is our Lord, and glorious: Great is the truth of the holy martyrs, which was preached in all regions; for neither fire, nor the sword, nor the rage of the heathen king, nor anything shook or terrified them. For God alone they confessed and condemned all tortures.

Faithful is the Lord in his words: The just martyrs, who conquered and overcame, meditated on the faith; for they knew that the word was true which our Lord spoke, “Everyone who confesses me before judges and rulers I will cause to inherit the kingdom on high, in heaven, and I will confess him before the Father.”

Gaze at him and trust in him: With the vision of the Spirit the sons of the righteous truly looked and saw within the veil of the holy of holies the heavens on high. They desired it and ran towards it by means of the tortures of the persecutors; and, as by a bridge, they crossed the sea of the world by the cross, to Eden, their true dwelling.

Place your right hand upon me, O Lord: May the right hand of our Lord, which calls all to the Kingdom, bless our assembly so that we may keep vigil on the memorial of the martyrs. May we also be helped by their prayers so that they may be to us a great shelter in the last day, when the heights and the depths are shaken and the will of the Creator reigns.

The camp of the angels of the Lord: My mind wondered at the blessed company of athletes, the splendid martyrs. They despised and scorned this world and its desires by gazing at the glorious brightness of the pearl, which is at the head of the Cross. With piercing eyes they looked and saw it and desired to seize it.

And your prayers be upon us: By your prayers give help to the needy, O splendid martyrs. You have filled the earth with the good seed of your victories and you have dug up the thorns which the evil one sowed with his weeds. Instead you sowed good seeds, O athletes, workers of truth.

How good and beautiful: The athletes saw a flawless pearl on top of Golgotha and desired earnestly to attain it. They bought it with their own blood and endured sufferings and horrific tortures for it. Behold, the reward of their labors is laid up for them; joy without end.

High in all the earth: High and exalted is the glorious and honored banquet which Christ the king has prepared for his athletes. They loved him, believed and confessed his name. Behold their festivals are celebrated in the four corners of the earth as they cry to him with halleluiah’s, and say, “Blessed is he who has exalted wis saints.”

Blessed are those that are blameless in the way: On the foundation of the twelve and the seventy disciples the noble ones built; Mar Eugene, Mar Shaleta, Mar Meelis with Mar Bawai, the pious Mar James of Suwa, Mar Ahha, Mar Awraham and Mar Yohannan; may their prayers be a refuge for us.

I will always bless the Lord: Blessed be Christ Who strengthened the martyr Mar Qiryaqos in his contest to stand against the persecutor. He prevailed and conquered the kings who contended with him. By the strength of the Spirit he valiantly endured scourging and became a sacrifice for his Lord and received the crown of victory.

Rejoice, sing and glorify: While rejoicing, the glorious martyr St. George gave up his soul to all afflictions. He heard Paul saying, “The sufferings of this time are not to be compared to that glory which the just inherit at the last day. He who labors and is diligent here shall inherit this glory.”

The virgins that are her friends shall follow her: O Virgin of the ages, Mary the blessed mother, beseech from your Son to spread his peace in this temple, in which the day of your memorial is celebrated with processions. May he also cause the right hand of his mercy to overshadow it like the house of Abram so that all who are afflicted and distressed may receive help from him.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit: Glory to you, O good and kind Lord, by whose power the faithful ones conquered. By your help they despised the threats of their persecutors and destroyed the power of the enemy who boasted; for they saw that the martyrs did not give up on their true and confident hope.

From the beginning and unto all ages: Our holy patron saint, who from his childhood pleased God like Samuel, in his humility was like Moses, the firstborn of the prophets, in his zeal like Elijah and in the love of his Lord like Abraham; may his prayer be a refuge to us from the schemes of the devil.

Let all the people say amen and amen: We offer praise to your divinity, O precious Lord, for by your loving-kindness you keep your faithful from harm. You have opened your door to the penitent that asks for mercy and you do not withhold the great treasure of your gift from your flock, O Lord, who is worshipped by all.

Amen.

Evening Prayers

Sunday

Anthem of the Martyrs

May the eternal mercy of your glorious Trinity protect your people your flock at all times, O Lord of all: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, forever. Amen.

Blessed is your divinity, O Lord, in heaven and on earth, and your majesty worshipped. Holy, glorified, high, and exalted, is the venerated and glorious name of your blessed Trinity at all times, O Lord of all: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, forever. Amen.

Praise the Lord, you righteous: Holy martyrs, pray for peace so that we may celebrate your memorials with joy.

The just deserve praise: The martyrs who longed to see Christ obtained wings through the sword and flew to heaven.

Sing beautifully with harmony: The martyrs in their love say to Christ, “For you we die daily.”

Seek the Lord and be strong: O martyrs, ask for mercy on behalf of the world that takes refuge in the strength of your bones.

Who called upon the Lord and he helped them: Let us call on the martyrs and take refuge in them, that they may plead on our behalf.

Like a city that is fortified: You are a strong obstacle before the persecutors in the times of affliction.

From now and forevermore: May the prayers of the martyrs be a refuge for us and drive away the assaults of the evil one.

Offer him the sacrifices of praise: You martyrs, who were sacrifices to the high priests, may your prayers be a refuge for our souls.

I will always bless the Lord: Blessed are your trials, O holy martyrs, for by the shedding of your blood you gained the kingdom.

His praises shall always be on my lips: Blessed is Christ, who exalted his saints here on earth and above in heaven.

They that love the Lord hate evil: O martyrs of the Son and beloved of the only begotten, pray that peace may be throughout creation.

Gaze upon him and trust in him:The martyrs saw the Son crucified on the tree and they lowered their necks to the sword and were crowned.

Incline your ears, O Lord, and answer me: The cross of our Lord was stained with blood. The martyrs saw it and lowered their necks.

He divided the sea and let them go through: The cross of Christ was a bridge to the martyrs and the just passed over it to the country where there is no fear.

More desirous than gold and precious stones: The martyrs are like pearls, for their icons are fixed in the king’s crown.

The king’s daughter stood in glory: The faithful Church is a pearl and the martyrs in her are pleasing sacrifices.

Within the ports of the daughters of Zion: The martyrs saw a pearl in Zion and they ran and bought it with the shedding of their blood.

More beautiful to look at than the children of men: The flowers in the gardens are beautiful to behold, but more beautiful were the martyrs when they were killed.

How good and beautiful:Precious stones and gems are you martyrs in the crown of the Son of the king.

Sing to the Lord with harps and with melody: I heard the voice of the martyrs singing praises with the harps of David around paradise.

His praise is in heaven and on earth: Praise to the voice that said to the martyrs, “Mingle your blood with my blood, and my life with your life.”

Hear this, all you people: The martyrs were blades of wheat and the kings reaped them, and the Lord placed them in the granary of his kingdom.

He comes with joy: The holy martyrs and priests go out to meet our Lord in the day of his coming.

And your prayers be upon us: Holy martyrs, ask mercy for us that by your prayers, we may receive forgiveness.

And I spoke of peace: Peace to you Mar Pithyon, the chosen of Christ, who bore all sufferings for the truth of your Lord.

For their sake, he rebuked kings: How fitting it is for the child Qiryaqos when the wicked king is rebuked.

And a joyful mother of children: The faithful Shmoni encouraged her sons, “My beloved children, depart in peace.”

Beg the Lord and pray before him: O St. George the martyr, plead for us from your Lord: compassion, mercy, and forgiveness of sins.

Kings of the earth and all peoples:All generations call blessed, the Virgin Mary, the Mother of God.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: Hail, holy martyrs, sowers of peace in the four corners of the world.

From the beginning and unto all ages: Your memorial, O patron saint, is on the holy altar, with the just who conquered and the martyrs who were crowned.

Let all the people say amen and amen: O God, by your great mercy, may we be disciplined, rather than by the hands of men

Come, O Lord, to help us and strengthen our weakness, for in you is our hope by night and by day.

O Christ, who does not neglect anyone who calls on you, in your mercy, do not reject the request of your faithful.

Their eyes are on you and upon you they gaze, so that you may forgive their trespasses and wipe away their sins.

O Lord, by your right, hand overthrow satan, who intoxicates without wine and causes to slip without mud.

With the tax collector, we ask mercy; pity us and have mercy on us!

Your cross has saved us. Your cross saves us. May your cross be a refuge for our souls.

May wars be brought to an end and disputes laid to rest. May your peace rule in the four corners of the world.

Protect us, our Lord, for we are like sheep among serpents, who are worse than wolves.

Sow your peace and harmony, our Lord, in the world and spare us from the rod of correction.

Bless and keep our people, our Lord, and make your peace and tranquility dwell in them.

Give peace to the whole world, O Lord, and end the persecutors who maltreat us.

Silence the mouths of the unjust, O Lord, so that they may never decree evil against the children of the church.

Closing Prayers: To you, who makes the Church grow, crowns those whom he loves, helps his saints, and triumphs the spiritual athletes in their holy, life-giving and divine contests; we implore you, Lord, to turn to us, forgive us, and have mercy on us at all times, O Lord of all: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, forever. Amen

By the prayers of your saints, O Lord and God, be reconciled to us; and by the pleading of your righteous overlook our sins, pardon our defects, grant rest to the departed, success to our affairs, bless our souls and bodies, and make us worthy of the wonderful glory of your kingdom. Unite us with the just and righteous who fulfill your will in the heavenly Jerusalem, O Lord of all: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, forever. Amen.

Monday

Anthem of the Martyrs

Monday Evening Prayer

Opening Prayers: Your holy name, O Lord and God, is glorified, your divinity worshipped, your majesty honored, your greatness celebrated and your being exalted.

Amen.

The memorial of the just is forever: Stephen paved the way and the martyrs walked in his footsteps. Along with the bridegroom they rejoice in the heavenly banquet.

We will not be afraid of any evil news:When Stephen was being stoned, he saw the glory of his Lord on high; and the Holy Spirit weaving a crown for the faithful.

He asked for life and you gave it to him: Stephen asked for mercy for the people who drew near to stone him; “Pardon, Lord, and forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

Against the unmerciful people: When Stephen was being killed, he asked mercy for his killers in resemblance to his Lord, when he was crucified by the cruel Jewish leaders.

Sing beautifully with melody: With a loud voice the martyrs cried before the judges and said: “We will not deny Christ, who tasted death for us.”

Help us, O God, our savior: May Christ, who descended among the martyrs and helped them in their trials, be to us an armor that is not conquered, and a fort that is not overcome.

There is no one like you, O Lord, my God, and there is nothing like your works: There is no suffering that afflicts us that we should deny and flee from your worship, for the gods of the pagans will end and you alone are forever.

Planted in the house of the Lord: The martyrs are placed in the temple like trees in a garden. Above them is placed the altar and the Holy Spirit ministers to them.

You his servants that do his will: The angels descend from their place and sing glory in their canticles over the bones of the faithful, who have carried out the will of their creator.

Offer him the sacrifices of praise: The martyrs were burned were incense that fell like spices in the fire and the smell of their burning was sweet like frankincense in the temple.

The cedars of Lebanon, which you have planted: The martyrs are cedars, which stood and did not bow down before the judges. On their graves kings worshipped, so that from their bones they might be helped.

Like a city that is surrounded by a wall: The martyrs are walls that do not fall, and blessed fountains that do not fail. By your prayers beg for mercy for the world from the compassionate one.

Incline your ears, O Lord, and answer me: Moses prayed, and the sea divided. Simon prayed and conquered the evil one. Our Lord prayed and tasted death and gave life to Adam who had perished.

Who can be compared to the Lord in the heaven of heavens?:The sufferings of this time are not to be compared to the kingdom that has been prepared for the faithful who have followed your name from the foundation of the world.

How good and beautiful: How sweet is the smell of that garden that is placed in the temple of Jerusalem. The martyrs enter and rejoice under the shadow of its branches.

Blessed are those that are blameless in the way: Blessed are the martyrs when they hear the voice of the Father that says to them, “Come, enter and inherit the kingdom that awaits you from the foundation of the world.”

They walk in the law of the Lord: Our Lord Jesus promised a great blessing that does not end for those who have loved him, believed in him, and have kept all his commandments.

Come, let us kneel and worship him: Come, let us be blessed by the martyrs and let us be consecrated by the priests. May the prayers of the martyrs and priests be a refuge to our souls.

O God, who is like you?: The death of the spiritual athletes is like the death, which our Lord died. His was to hang on the cross while theirs by the sword and stoning.

Those that are true of heart: The holy martyrs are invited to the awaited blessings that do not end. Contrary to the sufferings that they endured here, they inherit the kingdom on high.

He flew on the wings of the wind: The same chariot which bore Elijah sped and descended, and in it the saints will ascend to meet our Lord when he comes.

How good and beautiful: How beautiful are the companies of martyrs who stand in prayer. Sweet is the sound of their songs when they ask mercy for the world.

Righteous and upright: O glorious and holy martyr, Mar Qiryaqos the memorable, beg mercy for us from the Lord that we may be worthy of the forgiveness of sins.

And your prayers be upon us: Hail, O Pithyon martyr, spiritual treasure! Supply wealth to the needy who take refuge in your prayers.

Both small and great:Let us take refuge in St. George, that by the strength of his prayers, the Lord may make straight our ways and lighten the weight of our limbs.

And I will speak peace upon you: “Hail, full of grace,” said the angel to Mary. “The Lord is with thee, daughter of mortals, where from you the savior shines forth.”

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: Peace to the architects who built a fortress that does not fall;, and in the name of Jesus, adorned and built a bridal-chamber on high, which is not shaken.

From the beginning and unto all ages: From your trials, a crown of victory is laid up on high, O patron saint, that on the day you died, you took your seat on the right hand of your Lord, who exalted you.

Let all the people say amen and amen: O you, who completes the course of the day, and gives the night for rest, fulfill in us your mercy, O Lord, by night and day.

O Christ, who have kept us by day, and brought us to evening in his mercy, give us a restful night that we may confess you for your mercy.

O Lord, give peace to our country and bless all our work, that we may be worthy of mercy, compassion, and innocence on the day of judgment.

Give, by the mercy of your loving-kindness, a restful night and sleep to all the sick and afflicted who call on you in their affliction.

Amen.

Tuesday

Anthem of the Martyrs

Tuesday Evening Prayer

Opening Prayers: Your holy name, O Lord and God, is glorified, your divinity worshipped, your majesty honored, your greatness celebrated and your being exalted.

Amen.

For your sake we have been killed daily: O holy martyrs, who were killed for the love of Christ, we beseech you to beg mercy from God for us all.

In heaven and on earth: Your deeds have conquered and the commemoration of your trials have made us rejoice; for you were killed for Christ’s sake and with him you will reign on high.

Seek the Lord and be strong: O martyrs, beg mercy on behalf of the world, which takes refuge in your bones, that by your request and prayers, we may find mercy in the day of judgment.

How good and beautiful: The country where you dwell, O blessed ones, is filled with peace, tranquility and harmony. May we be kept from all harm, by your prayers.

I will always bless the Lord: Blessed is he who made you, O holy ones and true physicians; for all those who take refuge in your bones aid is poured forth to them.

The camp of the angels of the Lord: In many companies, the martyrs enter before their persecutors crying and saying, “Lord, help your servants in times of affliction.”

Gaze upon him and trust in him: They saw Christ and desired his love, who, for the sake of his Church, tasted death. They ran and gave up their souls so that at his second coming they would be with him.

Offer him sacrifices of praise: Incense of peace and pure offerings were you, O blessed ones, in whom the Father rejoiced, the Son accepted and the Holy Spirit crowned.

The Lord on high is glorious:The glory that is preserved on high, the martyrs will be vested, on the day of the second coming in the glorious country that is full of blessings, where life is high above all danger.

More desirous than gold and precious stones: The crowns that are more precious than gold, jewels and pearls are the ones that Christ places on your heads and gives you joy in his heavenly banquet.

Be strong, and your heart shall be strengthened: O martyrs, you did not fear the fire or the terrible swords of the judges; for you were clothed with the love of Christ and despised all suffering.

Praise him with a new song: The friends whom Christ has chosen for himself he vests with a new glory; and in place of the afflictions that they endured, He makes them inherit the heavenly banquet on high.

Open for me the gates of righteousness:Open your treasures, O blessed ones, and give help to the needy; for they await your prayers so that they may be sheltered from the evil one.

Blessed are those that are blameless in the way: Blessed are you holy martyrs, friends of the heavenly bridegroom. Behold you are invited to the kingdom, and life and blessings without end.

They walk in the law of the Lord: Our savior has promised an everlasting blessing and an unending and unperishing kingdom to his saints who have loved him and have kept his commandments.

Joseph was sold to slavery: The bones of the memorable Joseph made a breach against the Egyptians; and your bones, O holy martyrs, brought compassion to all creation.

You have set a glorious crown on his head: The Lord of glory placed a beautiful and honorable crown on the memorable Mar Hormizd, who bore suffering for the truth.

Righteous and upright: By the strength of the martyr Pithyon, the evil one and his servants were bewildered. May his prayers keep our congregation from the evil one and his hosts.

The Lord shall give strength to his people: May the same power that descended on the trials and gave the martyr St. George the victory, be our protection from the evil one and his hosts.

Choice silver refined on earth: Your pure body, O Mary, is a storage of aid for us, where by its many helps, it fulfills our needs.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: Glory to the Lord Who exalted all of you, and made you a storehouse of life; for in you the afflicted and distressed take refuge and are saved.

From the beginning and unto all ages:O brave and memorable athlete, our patron saint, who inherited the kingdom; implore from Christ to make his peace dwell in creation, through his mercy.

Let all the people say amen and amen:We raise to you, O Lord God, the evening praise, and from you we ask for the forgiveness of trespasses.

Give us life without sin, my Lord, along with love, peace and harmony. May all our petitions be answered in accordance to your divine will.

Sow within us, my Lord, a desire for prayer. May our request ascend to you to give us a twofold benefit; the nourishment of body and of spirit.

Wednesday

Anthem of the Martyrs

Wednesday Evening Prayer

Opening Prayers: Your holy name, O Lord and God, is glorified, your divinity worshipped, your majesty honored, your greatness celebrated and your being exalted.

Amen.

You are the blessed of the Lord: The blessed martyrs counted death as a great gain, and like honors and gifts, they accepted scourges and torments. Now after their deaths, they bestow on the world graces and are a storage full of aid.

They despised the beautiful land: The martyrs who saw the world passing away and truth enduring left buildings, riches and possessions, which are vanity. They desired the fear of God and gave their necks to the sword. Behold, they are about to inherit the Kingdom.

Sing beautifully with melody: The martyrs say, “Our crown is fixed and our wages laid up and Christ the king, whom we have loved, makes us enter his kingdom. Because we have suffered with fire and sword, Christ comforts our afflictions in paradise, which is full of joys.”

Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom: The martyrs are invited to the kingdom on high, and to life without end; that which no ear has heard and no eye has seen, as it is written. While to the hearts of men, no abiding blessing has gone up like that of the holy ones who loved Christ.

Take up a weapon and a shield and arise in my defense: The true martyrs were armed with the shield of the Spirit when they went down to the trials. Young men and boys assembled to see an uncommon sight of men fighting with death and conquering it as they were killed; a wonder that is greater than words.

Gaze upon him and trust in him: O holy martyrs, you saw Christ in the kingdom on high; and from an earthly life, you have reached perfection and have been counted worthy to glorify God, the Lord of all, with the spiritual companies.

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous: With the eye of the Spirit the holy martyrs saw Christ and imitated him by their sufferings; for they heard that voice, “Everyone that bears sufferings from men for my sake here on earth, will rejoice in the heavenly banquet of the kingdom.”

He spread out a cloud and overshadowed them: In the day of the resurrection, when the greatness of the heavenly king of kings is revealed, clouds of light will bear the saints. Above on high, all who have loved him and have kept his commandments will rejoice on the right hand of Christ.

They neither know nor do they understand: The king said, “Three young ones were cast into the furnace, yet a fourth stands among them. He showers their faces with dew, and the more the fire is kindled, the more their faces shine. Blessed be the Lord Who has exalted his saints.”

Before all the people: The martyrs say, “We will not deny the Son of God, for we are the seed of Abraham and the sons of the inheritance of Isaac. For the God of our fathers, we offer an earthly death and inherit life without end.”

Out of the hand of the unrighteous and evil man: While the evil king was enraged with anger and envy, he brought sharp wooden nails and nailed the body of the boy. But Christ helped him and supported him. May the prayers of St. Kiryakos the memorable be a refuge for us.

His heart is strengthened and he does not fear: The martyr Mar Pithyon stood prepared before the heathen Magi and rebuked their arrogance; “Do not worship idols, but worship the one God; for heaven and earth are his and his dominion endures forever.”

Against the unmerciful people: Because he loved him more than his life, horrible suffering, bitter torments and many kinds of deaths did the holy martyr St. George the memorable endure for his love for Christ. Blessed is he who crowned the martyr with victory.

The Lord preserves the faithful: By the prayers of the Virgin Mary, the blessed Mother, may your faithful, my Lord, be kept from the deceit of the devil. Grant us to fulfill your Will, both in words and deeds, and sing to your glory at all times.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: Peace to you holy martyrs, friends of Christ, for you conquered, overcame, were crowned and baffled the evil one in the contest. Blessed are you in the day of the Son, when the greatness of his glory shines forth, when you enter with him to the heavenly banquet and rejoice before him.

From the beginning and unto all ages: A garment of grace woven by the Holy Spirit are you, O patron saint. You have caused to flow forth by your steadfast deeds a fountain of heavenly blessings and have given your flock to drink of the word of heavenly life. Behold, a crown of victory is woven for you.

Let all the people say amen and amen: By sea and by land they call to you, our Lord, that you may come and help them. He who calls by sea you answer, and by land you do not neglect; and we, O Lord, who call on you, come and help us and save us and deliver us from the evil one and his host.

O Christ, who made peace with his own blood between the heights and the depths, make peace between priests and kings. Raise up your Church in your compassion and let the one sign of faith reign in the whole world, in your loving-kindness, O merciful Lord.

By your mercy, O compassionate Lord, bless and keep this country and its inhabitants from devils and evil men; and in time fill her with love, peace and harmony, and a healthy body and soul.

Drive away satan, who is the enemy of all righteousness, from the house where we dwell. Do not let him enter and have dominion. Instead, our Lord, establish its foundations on the rock of faith and fill it with life without end.

Amen.

Thursday

Anthem of the Martyrs

Thursday Evening Prayer

Opening Prayers: Your holy name, O Lord and God, is glorified, your divinity worshipped, your majesty honored, your greatness celebrated and your being exalted.

Amen.

All these things have come upon us, and we have not forgotten you: The martyrs loved and had faith in Christ, the savior of the world, the great king of glory. Along with the angels they rejoice on high and stand before God. In doing so they baffled the devil, the enemy, and his host they have subdued.

We have not been disloyal to your covenant: Christ is the savior of the world, Who suffered for us in his loving-kindness and prepared the way to the kingdom. In His steps went the martyrs who gave their bodies to torments, burnings and tortures. By the shedding of their blood they gained the promised life without end.

The voice of glory and salvation is in the dwelling of the righteous: At the voice of the holy martyrs, who sow peace in creation, the angels descend quickly to the holy place. companies of the spiritual ones cry with the martyrs in their song of praise; “Holy are you, O Lord of all, Who has exalted all humanity.”

For he has done a marvelous thing: A great marvel has been set for us by the faithful athletes and martyrs. They saw the swords flashing and the executioners threatening, yet their minds did not waver or move because of their great love for their Lord. They accepted death as a gift and never stopped proclaiming him.

He did not spare their souls from death: O you, who have been slain, who loved your creator and received death by your own free will, you became pleasing sacrifices to Christ the king who crowns you. Offer with us a petition in the great day of judgment that we may be rescued from torment and inherit life without end.

Offer him the sacrifices of praise: O martyrs, who are pleasing sacrifices, who appeased your Lord with the shedding of your blood and gained the kingdom that does not end, beg and beseech from the Lord that sinners, who take refuge in your prayers, may not perish and that peace and tranquility abide within them.

He sent his word and healed them:The martyrs were true physicians in creation who cured and healed souls that were defiled with sin. Praise to the Lord, who chose you and made power dwell in your bones, so that you might be a haven of peace in the world to all humanity.

He brought them to the haven that they longed for: A desired and valuable haven is the treasury of the bones of the saints; a fountain of mercies and of healing. May your will be placed there, O savior, and may the strength which descends from on high always visit these bones so that the assembly of your worshippers be kept from the deceit of the devil.

I will exalt you, O Lord, the king: The king on high, along with his ministers, helped the company of the faithful; for the command went forth that the just martyrs should be killed with the sword, but the Chaldeans were astonished as they stood and lifted up their hands and said: “Great is the God of the faithful, for He saves them though He is not seen.”

A great King above all gods: The king of paradise built a sanctuary in heaven and gave it the name Jerusalem for the faithful whose names are written in heaven. He fixed a ladder of life in his Church that leads those of his household. He raises them up to the wonderful dwelling of heaven so that, with the angels, they may have joy.

Take up a weapon and a shield and arise to help me: The martyrs were armed in their conflict with the shield of the Holy Spirit. When they bowed their heads before the swords of the persecutors, they despised the scourges and tortures. For the love of Christ, they inherited the eternal kingdom by the shedding of their blood.

The King’s daughter stood in glory:The Church is like the ark, the holy altar like the throne, and the martyrs like the angels, who minister to Christ. It is built with precious stones, sapphires and crystals, and its architects are Peter and Paul, Ephrem and Narsai, and John and Andrew.

And I will speak peace upon you: Peace to you, O Qiryaqos the martyr, the spiritual athlete of Christ the king. Peace to your tomb which gives health to the sick. Peace to your limbs, from which flow forth aid. Peace to you and to your mother and praise to him who gave you the victory.

Beg of the Lord and pray before him: Hail, spiritual merchant, O faithful martyr, Mar Sargis, a pearl without flaw. A light shone forth in your soul that you purchased with your blood, and thereby became rich. Now you have gained wealth that cannot be lost. Plead on behalf of the church and her children, for Love, peace and harmony.

Gird your sword upon your side, O great one: O great and powerful St. George, who despite death, the sword, cruel slashes and blows of every kind, worked miracles and wonders and turned men to the truth. Blessed be God who by his strength made this spiritual athlete triumph and overcome error.

This they shall say among the heathens: Blessed are you, O holy virgin. Blessed are you Mother of God. Blessed are you in whom all generations and races call blessed. Blessed are you in whom the Father was well pleased. Blessed are you in whom the Firstborn dwelt. Blessed are you whose name the Holy Spirit made glorious in creation.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit:Glory be to the Father, who chose you, faithful and holy martyrs. Glory be to the Son, for whose sake you stood by his strength in the trials. Glory be to the Holy Spirit, who adorned and wove your crowns. May your prayers be a refuge to us until the end of the world.

From the beginning and unto all ages:O patron saint, who conquered in the trials, behold in heaven is your reward. Christ, for whom you adorned yourself, has exalted your memorial in his church. A pure incense was your love that pleased your Lord by your deeds. Beseech him with us that when he is revealed in his glory, he may have mercy on us.

Let all the people say amen and amen:O King of kings, O Christ our Savior, you are our help. Have mercy on your servants who call on you in these times of affliction; for behold, sorrows and fears surround us on all sides. Quickly let Your mercies come before us to make your face shine on us and save us.

You are compassionate from all eternity and merciful forever. What is the wickedness of creation compared with the overflowing mercy of your loving-kindness? Sprinkle upon our nature the dew of mercy and compassion. Rescue us from the hand of the evil one and from the weeds of the wicked.

May Adam and the camp of the just, Moses and the chain of the prophets, Peter and the company of the apostles, Stephen and all the martyrs, Ephrem and Narsai the teachers, and Anthony and the hermits, beseech you, our Lord Jesus, so that you may have mercy on the world.

The departed who clothed themselves with you, our Lord, in the waters of baptism had their bodies cleansed by you from the stains of sin. Grant, O Lord, their memorial who have eaten of your body and have rejoiced in your living blood, in the country where the just abide.

Amen.

Friday

Anthem of the Martyrs

Friday Evening Prayer

Opening Prayers: Your holy name, O Lord and God, is glorified, your divinity worshipped, your majesty honored, your greatness celebrated and your being exalted.

Amen.

Their report is spread to all the earth: The holy martyrs clothed with light went out to the four corners of the world to preach the glorious Trinity; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

And their words went to the ends of the world: The martyrs were like the celestial beings; for while they were walking on earth in appearance like all men, their minds were above on high dwelling among the angels.

Bless the Lord, you his angels: Like angels, the martyrs, the friends of Christ, despised all earthly things and kept distant from them. Instead, they proclaimed the Trinity.

Sing to the Lord with harps and with melody: With songs and holy voices, the martyrs sing halleluiah before the heavenly bridegroom, and cry to him: “Holy, Holy, Holy to the one who gives victory to his friends.”

They that go down to the sea in ships: Hail, merchants, who with the shedding of your blood, obtained wealth that lasts forever. Beseech and beg of Christ that he makes his peace dwell in creation.

You his servants that do his will: The angels descend from the land of light and sing praise over the bones of the saints to him who makes the earthly ones worthy to rejoice with the spiritual ones.

More desired than gold and precious stones: Like gold and precious stones are the bones of the saints laid in the churches of Christ. They pour forth and give out help to him that takes refuge in them.

The light shone forth in the darkness to the righteous: Like the sun that shines forth in the sky, the deeds of the saints shine forth in the churches of the king’s Son. He that takes refuge in them, darkness cannot reach him.

Majesty and glory are before him: The blessed martyrs saw your majesty, O Lord, at the time when they suffered on the cross for your name’s sake; they all cried out saying: “For you we die.”

He spread out a cloud over them and overshadowed them: In the furnace stood the company of Hananiah, the three boys, who quenched the flame. May their prayers be a refuge to us from the snares of the devil.

Blessed are they who are blameless in the way: Blessed are the martyrs who loved Christ and, through the fire of his love, hated the things that are seen. Behold, he who repays them has come to pay the wage of their deeds.

And walk in the law of the Lord: Blessed are you holy martyrs, spiritual athletes, who conquered and overcame the spiritual contest. Behold your bodies are in the church while your spirits are among the angels.

The Lord shall give strength to wis people: O Christ, Who strengthened the child Qiryaqos during the scores of afflictions that he endured and did not loose sight of the Truth, keep our assembly by his prayers from the evil one at all times.

The Lord is the strength of his people: O Christ, who strengthened the martyr Mar Pithyon to oppose the evil of the magi, the sons of error, strengthen our assembly that it may overcome all sufferings and temptations.

Blessed are you and blessings to your soul: Blessed is your spirit, O martyr George, who served your Lord according to his will in this passing world. Behold you have received the wage of your deeds with the saints in the kingdom.

Shout from the top of the mountains: Blessed are you Mary, O Blessed Mother, who according to the prediction of the prophets and the seal of the apostles, you bore the Savior without a husband by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit: Hail, O holy martyrs! Hail, you who conquered in the spiritual contest! Hail, who loved Christ with a pure heart!

From the beginning and unto all ages: By means of grace, our patron saint achieved the perfection of the saints. O Christ, who exalts his saints keep our assembly by his prayer.

Let all the people say amen and amen:Answer us, O Lord; answer us, O hope of your household; answer us, O God, our savior; hear the voice of our pleading and respond in your mercy to our petitions, O good, whose mercy does not end.

May your cross, O Lord, be a guardian to the beloved assemblies whom you chose for yourself in your Catholic Church; that they may be worthy to do your will, that which is in heaven, also on earth.

Place before you, O Christ our savior, the prayer and request of your faithful, which they have offered to your majesty. May your grace help us crush the head of the tyrant.

A lamp and light is doctrine, and David among the prophets bears witness and Paul also among the apostles. Come let us partake from its fountain and walk in the way of its commandments.

Open to us, our Lord, the treasury of your mercy, that we may receive compassion and salvation for our tainted souls, similar to the robber who loved you and to whom you promised the kingdom.

Amen.
